Fire in the Sky

“A cloudless plain blue sky is like a flowerless garden” Terri Guillemet

Fire in the Sky

When the clock struck seven
High up in the heavens
The white, blue and yellow
Happily mixed together
Looking up at the skies
The vision burning my eyes
Painted in the colour red
Like the Almighty had bled
The horizon in full flame
Watching the complete frame
The sky was on fire

The Gun Rap

VERSATILE BLOGGER AWARD:  Featuring the Gun Rap

Put your “bass beat” on for this one!

“When in Rhyme do as the Rhymers do”

The Gun Rap

My name is Gun
I am a lot of fun
Some call me ‘Nilla
I am here to chilla

Here are some facts
Seven to be exact
Guess that is the most
You’ll find about this host

I am a wannabe writer
And maybe a little brighter
Than you might think
While you let that sink

I will continue my rant
In the form of this chant
Even though I really can’t
Sing, dance or ant?

“What? Ant? That is not a verb!”
“I was trying to rhyme -erb”
“If you can’t rhyme, stay out of the kitchen”
“Why are you so bitchen?”
“Enough with the rhyme!”
“Fine! Now gimme a dime and lets get back to the rap!”

The three letters

Being a Red Shirt is never easy

Ode to all Red Shirts, dead or alive

“He’s Dead, Jim” Dr McCoy

Being a Red Shirt is never easy

Wearing a red shirt
Feeling like about to get hurt
The target is painted on my back
No time for sleep or a snack
I know I am not really cherished
And quite soon to be perished
Since I am mainly used as cannon fodder
Even though I am none the odder
Than a yellow or blue shirted one
So, now my time has come
And with the beat of the drum
I will march into my doom
Proudly, staring into the gloom
After all it is my duty
And that is the beauty
Of being a Red Shirt

I am the Queen of Fucking Everything

Gun Roswell's avatarRantings Of A Third Kind

“Careful how you play your card, when you have a queen in your hand”

I am the Queen of Fucking Everything

Who am I?
You dare to ask me?
Or are you playing shy?
Or do you task me?

Do you not know who I am?

I am everyone
And I am no one
I know all
Still I am alone

I own everything
And I own nothing
I rule the world
Yet, I rule nothing
I rule your world
I rule you

I am gorgeous
I am sexy
I am marvellous
I am perplexing
Hardly ordinary
I am, extraordinaire

All the adjectives you can imagine
No one quite my kin

I can do anything
I can do everything
I can go everywhere
You can find me anywhere

And don’t you dare
To disagree with me
Or I will give you the scare
For contradicting me

Why?
You ask

Ode to My Family, Photography and Poetry

Photography and Poetry

“Remember, as far as everyone knows, we are a nice, normal family!”

Ode to My Family

Can’t live with them
Can’t live with them
That is really all that can be said
Rather than whining, I wrote this ode instead

I would like to put them in a box
And take them out when ever needed
But there is a warning to be headed
They really are quite crazy
Maybe a little hazy
And cunning like the fox
The may not be my kind of crazy
But they are still family
Even though scattered all over
Like a five leaf clover
I still have the luxury
Maybe even compulsory
To keep in touch with them
Thank Goodness for such gems
As Instagram and Facebook
Now we are all hooked

So without resistance
Lets enjoy the distance
No just kidding
I love you guys!

Blogging 201: Day Five: Make the Most of Your Archives

“Breathe. Know that the Internet has no eraser” Liz Strauss

Blogging 201: Day Five: Make the Most of Your Archives

The internet is ephemeral — you publish a post, and it sinks to the bottom of your blog before you know it. You’re competing with breaking news and dealing with short attention spans.
Readers and search engines love seeing new content on your homepage, but you can keep things even fresher by highlighting your archives: your best posts, hidden gems, and timeless content. After all, if a reader just found you, it’s all new to them.

Today’s assignment: Integrate a feature to draw traffic to your older content like a widget, related posts, or a “Best of” page.

Why do this?
• Because a go-to page compiling your best posts is the simplest way to get readers to your content — you never know which post pique someone’s interest, so make the good ones easy to find.
• Because while your About page does a great job introducing you, a curated selection of posts further illustrates your perspectives.
There are a few different ways to do this; one (or more) is bound to work for your blog.

Previously on Rantings Of A Third Kind
A page for Photography was designed
To be country specific was defined
And all the related posts to combine

The page for Daily Poem briefly existed
To pending status it was soon listed
For more than one per day a poem coexisted
And to an overwhelming task insisted

Yesterday, Throwback Thursday was introduced
Much more traffic it did produce
Not even Bruce could reduce
And it did give the creator much more juice

Gidgets, gadgets, all types of widgets
On the pages already existed
To name but a few
And give them their due

Top posts, calendar, pages and archive
Better give me the high five!
Before going live
On today’s trial

A showcase for most favourite posts
As presented by the host
Could be the thing of the week
Or maybe something else ya seek?

Let the rantings begin!

Let the rantings begin!

The old adage ‘Life is something, that happens when you are busy making other plans’ applies in most situations. Whether it is something you planned for the day or a bigger plan like your career from the time you finished school and started work life, the one thing you can be sure of is that nothing will go exactly the way you planned.

Rather than dwelling on the bigger plan, I would like to share some of the day-to-day experiences and how the adage ‘Well begun is half done’ does not always add up!

Sometimes something as simple as buying groceries may end up being a little more than you bargained for…

A quick trip to the supermarket

Gun Roswell's avatarRantings Of A Third Kind

“All the well laid plans”

A quick trip to the supermarket

I had planned to do my shopping for the week and finish working early to avoid the rush hour. Unfortunately my boss had other ideas: A rush job, which needed to be done urgently, today.

So, I changed my plans and stayed late. Guess my boss was the one with the bigger plan this time.

When I finally managed to sneak out, I got into my car and drove into the street. I had arrived just in time for the traffic jam! An endless sea of cars back to back with no way in or out from the roundabout. Well, I did not get to go to the carnival last time they were in town, so guess I could enjoy myself in a merry-go-round for a while, listening to my favourite tunes on the radio.

After a while the traffic…

Throwback Thursday: 2015-07-23 2015-02-01

TBT DEF

“Throwback Thursday: OMG: Throwback Thursday, I needa find a photo of myself from like hella long ago and post it on Facebook”

Throwback Thursday 2015-07-23

Today is time for a walk down memory lane.

I started the Rantings Of A Third Kind six months ago this is the post where it all started with a two parter introduction:

Let the rantings begin!

A quick trip to the supermarket

A little background on the idea and the name:

“Rantings of a Third Kind” was actually invented several years back. Initially I was planning to write a book with everyday life situation gone array with a humorous twist. Now a few years later, a blog seems a good place to be!

My original idea for the blog was a humorous “rant”, with an adage and a lessons learnt included and of course accompanied by an appropriate picture. After a while, poetry took over. Then I realized photography was a big hit. Now dabbling into the world of rap and song and who knows what the future will bring!

Now, after fifty years, two distinct careers and a partridge in a pear tree, I am once more back on the writing wagon. And with force I might add. I started writing at the ripe old age of five, dabbling a play with crayons on paper and forcing my poor family to sit down and watch the show. As I recall, the name was “Santa Claus is coming”. Ever since that time, writing has been a passion of mine and I have been writing periodically and this is actually my third attempt at public writing.

I started my second passion around my tenth birthday when I obtained my first camera. It was a Coca Cola “bribe” and the brand was Kodak. It took really nice photos and I used it for several years, snapping and developing my own black and white photos.

As to my third passion… Well I guess you can call work a passion! It was before I turned twelve. First as a part time job after school and on weekends and naturally during every possible holiday I was off from school! And now over thirty years and a few degrees later, I’m getting my twenty year marker in the world of IT next year.

So there you have it, what, why, who, how and here we are!

Enjoy this first post ever on Rantings Of A Third Kind re-run:
