I Laugh, There For I Am

“Laughter is the best revenge for anger” Dalai Lama

I Laugh, There For I Am

Call me crazy
Call me a fool
Or just a simple tool
Laughing, grinning
Face in full leering
Feelings of winning
Life gave you lemons
Or battling with demons
Trying not to worry
Or even feel sorry
For things that cannot change
Rather arrange
Time for a full belly laugh
Several times a day
It isn’t daft
Keeps your mind clear
Throughout the year
When you wake up
Forget the wile
Put on that smile
It is the best make up
Everyone can wear
Which will not tear
Come rain or shine
All will be fine

Sunsets in Rhodes

Posted in response to The Clinic-Photo Rehab hosted by Lucile De Godoy

“When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator” Mahatma Gandhi

Sunsets in Rhodes

Yellow, orange, red
The colours bled
When the sun sets
There are no regrets
Of the night ahead
A new day is bread
And the sun sets
Again tomorrow

Flying across the skies
Waiting for the price
At the end of the station
A promised vacation

The journey taken
Was not a long one
Each morning awoken
To the rays of the sun

Surrounded by history
Shrouded in mystery
Time spent on the beach
Bliss at hands’ reach

Enjoying each day
Life a large buffet
Until it was time
Back home to climb

Gun’s Travel Log: Greece – Rhodes Island 19

“Even people who know nothing about Greece know something about Greece. The very name sparks visions of ancient civilizations that dominated the Mediterranean” Polly Letofsky

Feels like only yesterday
We started on our holiday
Alas a week has passed
The time went really fast
We’re off to pack our bags
Oh what an eternal drag
On our way to the aeroport
Wishing the lines to be short

Soon enough
Taking off

Upwards to the blue skies
Above the clouds miles high
After a few hours spent
Homeland visible ahead
Preparing for the ascent
As easily done as said
Formalities and baggage claim
For final destination aim

Grabbing a taxi
Finally relaxing
A long day of travel
The throat like gravel
Not long now
Finally homeward bound

Travel is a lot of fun
Basking forever in the sun
But, after all is said and done
Home
Is still sweet home!

Bye, bye beautiful island
It may not be my home land
But I promise once more to return
When the travel fever starts to burn
And I will start to yearn
Of the blue and turquoise sea
As far as the eye can see
Even though a Finn
Still loving the fun
And the warmth of the sun
On my skin
So maybe next year
You will see and hear
Me returning to this island

Today was the last day of the holiday and sadly tomorrow morning we will take off.
Relaxing in the warmth of the sun and snapping a few memories in the near surroundings was all on the agenda.

Basking in the sun
What could be more fun
I can think of none
Last day of holiday
Luckily on a sunny day
Tomorrow we’ll be on our way
On the plane back home we’ll fly
To our friends we’ll say goodbye
There will be no dry eye
The skies briefly turned gray
As if to sadly say
For a while more stay
But, in the end
The time spent
Was a holiday to recommend

The island of Rhodes is located at the crossroads of two major sea routes of the Mediterranean between the Aegean Sea and the coast of the Middle East, as well as Cyprus and Egypt. The meeting point of three continents, it has known many civilizations.

Throughout its long history the different people who settled on Rhodes left their mark in all aspects of the island’s culture: art, language, architecture. Its strategic position brought to the island great wealth and made the city of Rhodes one of the leading cities of the ancient Greek world.

Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese. Its capital city, located at its northern tip, is the capital of the Prefecture with the Medieval Town in its centre. In 1988 the Medieval Town was designated as a World Heritage City. The Medieval Town of Rhodes is the result of different architectures belonging to various historic eras, predominantly those of the Knights of St. John.

On today’s agenda; a road trip to the City of Rhodes. Grabbing a taxi and off to the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Rhodes city we went.

Strolling on the beach boulevard and on the shopping streets can be exhausting after a while, especially since the day seemed hotter than the previous days. Upon a small conversation about the weather – always a good subject where ever you go – we were informed the wind had changed, and the degree was therefore higher.

Walking down the street towards the museum in the harbour, admiring the view and trying to avoid the “bouncers” offering the various boat rides available there. Tempting, but not on today’s agenda. The main goal was to snap a few memories of the architecture and seashore.

After a hard day’s excursion, it was finally time for a break with some nourishment and cold drinks: Yes, you guessed the choice of food: Greek salad, what else is there when in Greece?

Gun’s Travel Log: Greece, Rhodes: Umbrellas

Gun’s travel log, stardate: Greece, EET (GMT +3)

For an island which says
They offer 300 sunny days
There sure are lots of umbrellas
In this little town of Hellas’

Better be prepared for the worst
Was the answer received at first
The local folk seemingly surprised
Of the Finn’s stupid question arised

Kindly explaining further
The picture was getting clearer
The monsune season filled with rain
Without the umbrellas it would be a pain
