Day Six: “Landscape” — Crop Your Image

Today, let’s walk in the footsteps of masters like Ansel Adams and focus on landscape photography.

Landscapes generally focus on wide, vast depictions of nature and all of its elements, from formations to weather. In this genre of photography, you won’t find much of a human presence: nature itself is the subject. A focus on nature isn’t mandatory, however — you can also capture a sweeping panorama of a city.

Where I get rested
Where I can clear my head
The place where I am fed
And each night
Go to bed

Day Six: Screen

You’re reading these words on a screen. Screens — comforting, addictive, inescapable — are everywhere, especially when we read and write (and blog). Today, write a poem about, against, or in homage to the screens in your life. Or write about some other kind of screen — for example, the one stretched across your window, or the piece of cloth on which movies are projected at the theater.

“We made the buttons on the screen look so good you’ll want to lick them” Steve Jobs

Twin Screens

My confession
My obsession
My precious
My life essence

Sitting on the table
I really cannot lable
This is no fable
Or maybe
I am just, unstable

My two Macs
Nothing do they lack
No time do I track
Even by their side
Do I snack

Breaking away
Keeping them at bay
There’ll come a day,
But for now
I choose to stay

They give me all
With them,
Life’s a ball
Some might say
I stall

World wide
Do I glide
Virtually mind!
Maybe I just hide
Maybe I am tied

My Macs
The two of them
Now packed
Time to hit the road
Jack

Dear Reader
This was a tale of humour
Somewhat of a rumour
A tale told by the weaver

Maybe, I actually did more
And myself away tore
Just before
I got too hooked
And started reading a book
Instead

Day Five: “Moment” — Capture Motion

* Our lives are made up of big events and tiny moments. Life is fleeting, and oftentimes it’s the small moments, this motion, that we love to document.

Day Five_ Imperfect

* We find faults in ourselves, in others, and in the world around us all the time. Today, write a poem about the imperfect nature of someone or something, whether you accept these imperfections or complain about them, try to fix them or celebrate them.

“Me, myself and I”

Imperfect Me

Past tense

Imperfect
Useless to object
The mirror
Truth reflects

Between tenses

Hiding
In the shadows
Finding
My own place

Dark images
Hiding blemishes
Trying to be
Perfect me

Present tense

Imperfect me
Exists
In the daylight

Accepted
I am

“In my photographs it is apparent that there was no posing at the moment I released the shutter” Jerzy Kosinski

Happy

Sad face
Feeling crappy

“Don’t worry, be happy”
She said

And jumped off the sofa
Sprinkled fairy dust
The scent of ambrosia

“In this you must trust!”

And in a wink of an eye
Without a goodbye
She was gone

Lingering happiness
Replacing the crappiness
And finally
A smile on my face

Quote a Week Tuesday

For this week’s quote of the week, I have chosen a little something… well not so little! It’s regarding change: Surely a constant for modern times!

Day Six: “Solitude” — The Rule of Thirds

Today, let’s capture solitude: the state of being alone, or a lonely and uninhabited place. What does this word look like to you?

“Solitude standing” Suzanne Vega

One Winter’s Day

Break time
Nothing but time
On my hands
No other plans

Cool sea breeze
My hands freeze
Trying not to sneeze
Uttering, “please”

Let this break
Be over soon!

Day Five_ “Connect”

* In this age of social media, we hear the word connect often, don’t we? Connect with us on Facebook! Connect with me on LinkedIn! Given what today’s technologies can do, it feels like the world is getting smaller, and we’re more connected than ever.

Call Me

“Use the phone:
Just dial the numbers!

No Twitter
No Facebook
No Instagram
No damned text messages!

That’s it:
Use your fingers
Push the buttons
Numbers
One by one
Put the receiver
Against your ear
Can you hear
The ring tone?

That’s it!

Use
Your
Own
Voice

And just,
Call me!”
