A day in May in Suburbia

“When the sun is shining, the weather warm, there is no use in delaying, the spring cleaning chores!” Gun Roswell

Something about the sun shining through the dirty glass left behind the winter’s snowy mass
Which beckons the house holder to pick up a bucket of water and a hopefully clean rag
The cleaning of the home, certainly a time honoured tradition

Alas sometimes, all of us, could do with a little less fuss rather than working oneself to exhaustion
With all them chores the spring brings with it
To set the house up ready and waiting for the visit
Of the shiniest of sunny rays, which keep on bouncing on each and every surface

Then there is the yard or balcony or if you are unlucky, both
The cleaning, the organising, the fertilising, the sowing of seeds
Hoping at least a few flowery things to be appearing before the end of summer
But if they won’t well, there is always the weed kinds with pretty colours
So don’t be too harsh and go and rip of that yellow and purple looking grass
At least something is growing on that neglected and badly kept yard!

And so there is the next topic, the one with the complete overhaul of the garden
The dirt, the rocks, the whatever else is needed to get the work moving
All kinds of curious tools, shovels and forks and such simply to get stuff growing?
Well, do it once and then it’s all done right?
Wrong! It’s a never ending cycle!

So do be, forewarned!
It’s a trap, a total scam!
For all those would be gardeners:
Leave well enough alone, nature, will take it’s own course after all!

A Day in the Colours by Nature

“Nature is still the best bet for any chance of peace, colour and perhaps fun?” Gun Roswell

Sitting on a swing
Not worrying about a thing
Enjoying the simple life
Without a stinger or a strife
The air almost like silk
Time slowly passing by
Not one trouble in sight

Observing, watching, looking
What is nearby cooking

The hedgehog sipping it’s milk
The squirrel with it’s tail high
A bird gliding in mid flight
The flowers in the wind crooking

The clouds hanging softly in the sky
Exhaling, letting out a sigh
The last rays of sun on the skin
What a perfect fin
For a July summer’s day
The grass in a gentle sway

By the Shores of the Sea

“The sea beckons for the stray traveller to get on the waves, in a boat or then, swimming perhaps close to the shore” Gun Roswell

I still remember
That one September
The bluest of skies
And it was warmer than July
The water clear and inviting
The air soft and delighting
Not a worry in sight
Everything quite right
In the distance
For an instance
A boat or two
Disappearing from the view
Most tourists already gone
Leaving us alone
Enjoying in peace
With a short lease
The last rays of summer

Cloudy but also with a chance of Rain

“Sometimes it rains, other times there is snow, but if you are lucky enough, there is sunshine too” Gun Roswell

Cloudy, with a chance of rain
No, we’re definitely not in Spain
Seems to be a repeating pattern
Maybe a joke by the Mad Hatter

Be careful to not get a frost bite
When you dip your toe into the lake
Or you might end up in a plight
And a most terrible ache

A summer’s day in July
Eyes focused on the sky
Clouds moving to the wind
Cold breeze on my skin

Should have worn a jacket
“But it’s summer” I quote with “brackets”
Let’s open the packets
And bring out the rackets

Summer madness or fun
Maybe we’ll see the sun
Before the day is done
And we have to run

So let’s enjoy this time of year
Without any doubt or fear
The winter soon enough is here
And the summer mood will disappear

The Market Square

“The busy and narrow streets of old town beckons for shopping and whatnot, it’s a warm summer’s day after all!” Gun Roswell

The hustle and bustle
The use of the rustle
All the customers
Lurking about this summer
The Market Square
The biggest fair
This side of town
The jewel of the crown
Bursting with life
Peacefully, without a strife
Roaming the stands
Even if not a fan
You may enjoy the ambiance
So come on down and take chance

Nature, naturally!

“Something about nature and going back to it? Pretty and all, that is true!” Gun Roswell

The last of warm days?
Before the cold rains again?
It is time to prepare
But do not despair
Summer may be ending
The nature surely changing
Soon it will be summer, then autumn and winter again
But the colours
Will be awesome before that will happen!

Skies Above

“Something about looking up towards the skies and about some kind of truth found there? The truth being out there???” Gun Rowell

august-skies-2

Blue, darker, black
White, greyer, and then black
The days are getting shorter
The sunlight but a quarter
The clouds gathering
Soon the sun capturing
More rain to be expected
Into our souls reflected
In the above skies
The only truth lies
The summer’s end

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee and some more Coffee… yes please!

“Waddaya mean I had too much coffee today? (Trips, stumbles, does not fall, while reaching for the next cup)” Gun Roswell

Since the dawn of time when humans first dropped down from the trees and started walking, their first trip must have been to the closest Starbucks for some coffee.

Remember the classic film “2001: A Space Odyssey” and first scene where the prehistoric man is bewildered when a big black block lands before him? What if instead of the monolith a giant cup of coffee would have landed? I think we would have evolved much faster and would be more advanced today if that would have been the case 😉

But let’s move forward in time and to present day.

I have dropped in a quite a few suggestions (read request) in our office “suggestion box“: Add to the list of necessary office supplies an IV drop filled with coffee. Each worker would then be hooked into the IV every morning and during the day; a dedicated person would circulate around the office and re-fill the empty ones.

But seriously, coffee is the one good drug that keeps this world up and running. Here is an example of an ordinary working day:

1st cup: 06.00 AM: Eyes barely open reaching for my glasses on the night stand sniffing for that precious aroma. Nothing yet! Half running downstairs praying the automated coffee maker has not suffered from any kind of electrical stroke during the night and my coffee would be there waiting for me.

It is! Hallelujah let the day begin!

2nd cup: 06.20 AM: Morning ablutions behind me, standing fully clothed ready to take off to work, gulping the second cup of coffee while reaching for the door.

3rd cup: 07.00 AM: In the office, turning on the coffee machine before even reaching for the lights in the darkened office. Impatiently waiting while the machine is making its morning sounds before I can insert my coffee capsule into the damned thing and get my coffee (Note: It’s a double shot just to make sure I don’t run out before I can tackle today’s pile of work).

4th to 6th cup: 08.00 to 11.00 AM: A steady flow of “double shots” for each cup to keep up the pace of the day and a smile on my face.

7th cup: 11.30 AM: A cup of coffee to complement a tasty lunch, of course 😉

8th to 9th cup: 12.00 PM to 02.00 PM: One for each scheduled meeting for the afternoon.

10th (to 11th) cup: 02.15 PM: It is finally time for the afternoon coffee break! (In reality this is a very large cup so guess it counts for two or more…).

12th cup: 03.00 PM: Last squeeze (and cup of coffee) before the day’s work is done!

13th cup: 04.00 PM: Time to leave for home, one more for the road…

14th to Umpteenth cup: 05.00 PM to Midnight: After a full day of work, I managed a full hour of exercise, went grocery shopping and vacuumed the whole house. Albeit I was so perked up from all the coffee I managed to get to bed early (around 2 AM) after cleaning a few closets and taking the dog out three times during the evening for a brisk walk and of course, having a cup of coffee here and there; P

The lesson learned: There is no such thing as too much coffee!

By the way, last time I had my yearly check up at the doctors, the conclusion was: there was far too much blood in my caffeine circulation!

A sandy beach with lots of water and sand in sight!

“Come to the beach, we have warm sand and blue waters here, plus, sunshine all day long!” Gun Roswell

The soft feel, under my hard-felt feet
Almost lulls me gently, to a deep state of sleep
The sea open wide, right there, in front of me
Is so damn blue, it’s like so totally deep

I am not sure if I am dreaming or not
Maybe I should not think about it too much
Since this sensation currency on me
Feels too good to disturb or shake the feel

Going with the currencies wherever this state takes
Not worrying too much if the sensations are totally fake
This may be a memory of something from the past
Or then I simply stepped through a wormhole and ain’t that worth a gasp!

So, for now, I am here, sinking in deeper and deeper
The sand feeling warm as the skies are getting so much clearer
Deep are the blues both in the ocean and above
This is truly the place I have yearned for and now am with utter love

Don’t disturb me, please, while I may or may not be sleeping
This time I am in is gently into each and every poor seeping
I may be floating in mid air, or just sleeping in my bed instead
But what ever this is, leave now and let me here be

Open the Stargate!

“That looks like a gateway to the past” Gun Roswell

The gateway on to the
Beach appeared, out of nowhere, in a
Flash of light, it was

Standing there, where nothing before
It existed. Now it is open wide
For anyone to enter, if you

Really dare, then take a
Leap and jump back in time into
The past of all time

Just remember, you may not
Get back, but that is a risk
Well worth taking, so stop

Your shaking and take the
Step, one small step for mankind and
Who knows what you’ll find
