Crossing the Icy Lake

“A cold and crispy day, but sunshine warming up the display of the outside looking inviting, for a stroll on the lake“ Gun Roswell

The sunny day beckoned towards the open waters, only they weren’t as open this time of year, rather frozen solid like the rest of nature.

The snow covering the surface of ice, thick, which in a way is safe and nice, especially for those taking a shortcut across the lake.

The tracks there found  by so many others gone there before, taking a leisurely stroll or hurrying to work, and the one perk of enjoying the scenery while doing so.

But for those having the time, simply enjoying the warming sunshine in the midst of the coldest of winters, is something totally divine.

The New Year has arrived !

“Another worthless year behind me in which I’d accomplished absolutely nothing!” Gun Roswell

Somehow, managed to muddle through real life, work and family

And for that I had an extra kind of remedy

Getting totally lost in the very land of, fantasy

And staying there for as long as possible

Watch so many favourite shows during the year

Over and over and over, without any fear

The familiar episodes bringing tears but also joy

And that my dear readers, was indeed the ploy!

Managed to output some things too

Stories, articles, poetry accumulating but a few

Over six-hundred-k words typed with bleeding fingers

But seeing someone cheering out there, sent me good shivers

People a few, really good ones too, did I meet

Not that socialising was the thing I was out there to seek?

Becoming somewhat of a hermit, a recluse, pardon the excuse

Of a certain viral strain raising havoc across the plains

Managed to get a few great friends

And over the internets no less!

We may never see each other face to face

But hey, as long as we share our favourites

That is all I really for the daily grind need

And so, without a doubt:
Happy New Year, just the same!

Windows and Doors?

“So many windows to open , but no doors in sight! Guess there is a slight chance to escape through the open cracks of said windows?” Gun Roswell

A window, facing, the open sea

Allowing, a whole new world, to be seen

Do not try, from the life, outside, to hide

Open the window, and let the breeze inside

Enjoy the sounds and smells

Even the sunlight and thundery rain

Follow the birds, and their play

Soon, from the window sill, you’ll never leave again

Colourful it may be, from the outside

But what is hiding inside, may not be, so divine

Darkness and shadows, lurking in every corner

Huddling figures, afraid, alone, nothing normal

Open the window, let in the thundering storm

It may be followed, by a few drops of rain to fall

Sunshine surely to follow, shining light into the hollow

Take a peak, outside, you’ll realise, there is no need to hide

Something to be recycled?

“Nothing wasted here, with every single piece refurbished and recycled, giving the lot a new lease in life.” Gun Roswell

Abandoned, discarded, of no more use
Maybe, we all have just a too short fuse

When something is broken and no more works
Then we just run out and buy a new one like jerks

Why not mend it, fix it, or make some repairs
Or just save it and use the parts as spares

Perhaps even building something new, an artwork or something to be used?

If a neighbour or friend might need something dome, then simply share
After all, it’s better than throwing things away – it’s called care

A snowy seat; nothing that can beat!

“The best seat in the house, but it’s on the outside!” Gun Roswell

snowy-seats-2

It may be cold outside
With lots of frosted snow there lies
But as the sun comes from its hide
(if it even bothers to do that during winter times!)
You need to take it oh so very slow
And so
Take a seat for a little while
Even if it might not exactly be your style
And simply enjoy with a smile
(No matter snow covered or not!)

A heart for the holidays

“Sometimes, one simply needs to forget about the hassle around, take a breather and concentrate on the very essence of what this special season really means, if anything.” Gun Roswell

xmas-heart

In a comfortable winter’s sled
A holiday heart, glowing in red
Cheer and joy, for a while it will spread
No one knows, what here it lead
Or where it will next head
So each night, before you go to bed
Whisper a wish to keep it fed

A snowman for the holidays

“It’s made out of snow, but has a nose and a bow, or a scarf, guess depending on the person having made the snowman up. Freezing cold outside, alas, never too cold for the bold snowman, standing there, in the yard.” Gun Roswell

Frosty the Snowman
Delivering the ultimate plan
For the holiday fan
From here to Milan
Doing the holiday can-can
Just because, he can

Angels and Elves

“Those mythical figures adorning our homes and perhaps lives, saviours and even spies? Alas, looking rather nice, at least, when staying on them shelves or wherever else they just might dwell.” Gun Roswell

xmas-old-fashioned

Angels and elves,
Where do they dwell?
Filling the shelves perhaps
Putting on spells on us
Ringing the holiday bells maybe
Letting us know not to be lated
Of the seasonal celebrations

And so,
All is now well again

The Jolly Ole Saint Nick

“Oh Xmas time, oh Xmas time… yeah, so, tis the season after all, so let’s try to have some kind of a ball? Even if some of us might not just subscribe to the general idea of the celebratory time. But yeah, totes put up a tree and some lights, as they do look, kinda nice!” Gun Roswell

The jolly Saint Nick
For some, Father Christmas
To others, Santa Claus

Call him what you will
You will always get your fill
Of happy thoughts and enjoyment
And possibly a nice payment
On Christmas Eve or Day wherever in the world you play
If you only believe

The Seasonal Celebration – Xmas Eve

“It was the day before the real  xmas, or at least, in some countries it is so, at least” Gun Roswell

Up here, in the North, we celebrate this seasonal holiday, this Xmas time without much of a ball
Even if the trees might have some, but we, us northern dwellers, prefer not to have too much fun
As peace and quiet, are the key words, so not to cause any kinds of riots
When Santa Claus or Father Xmas or Kris Kringle or whichever way you prefer this character of sorts to call
As this one single dude, who will bring us, well not food, but at least some not really needed stuff
And hey, that all should be quite enough, for this time of the year
When we all are mostly gathered together, in a sort of a celebration, without too much fear?
