“Nothing screws up your Friday like realizing it’s Thursday”

Thursday, 19th of November, Part One

Today, Thursday

Early morning
I woke up
Showered
Looked out the window
It was really dark
The rain had continued
All through the night
Went outside for a while
Snapped a few pics

Worked, worked, worked
Meetings and then some
Had a snack break
The sun appeared
The flowers on the table
Had started to bloom
Snapped a few pics

Worked some more
Afternoon
It was time for a
Splash in the pool
Left to take the dive
Had a few minutes to enjoy the nature
Snapped a few pics

Back home
More work
More meetings
Urgency
Finally,
Working day ended
It was really dark outside
Put out some Christmas decor
Snapped a few pics

Much later
Posted some blogs
Went to sleep
Dreaming of tomorrow…

It will be Fabulous Friday!

What Ever!

what ever

“Screw you guys, I’m going home!” Eric Cartman

What Ever!

You were smiling
Feeling charming
And quite beguiling
The sun was shining
This was supposed to be
A great day
For a song or a play

But then it turned out to be
Something else completely
It turned out to be
One of *those days*
Struck you in the face
Run over like a ten ton truck
And disappear without a trace

What the fuck?
Feeling like a schmuck
Completely out of luck
Standing in the rain
Without an umbrella
Almost going insane
And not from singing a cappella

So I say “What ever!”
And take my leave

Throwback Thursday: 2015-07-23 2015-02-01

“Throwback Thursday: OMG: Throwback Thursday, I needa find a photo of myself from like hella long ago and post it on Facebook”

Throwback Thursday 2015-07-23

Today is time for a walk down memory lane.

I started the Rantings Of A Third Kind six months ago this is the post where it all started with a two parter introduction:

Let the rantings begin!

A quick trip to the supermarket

A little background on the idea and the name:

“Rantings of a Third Kind” was actually invented several years back. Initially I was planning to write a book with everyday life situation gone array with a humorous twist. Now a few years later, a blog seems a good place to be!

My original idea for the blog was a humorous “rant”, with an adage and a lessons learnt included and of course accompanied by an appropriate picture. After a while, poetry took over. Then I realized photography was a big hit. Now dabbling into the world of rap and song and who knows what the future will bring!

Now, after fifty years, two distinct careers and a partridge in a pear tree, I am once more back on the writing wagon. And with force I might add. I started writing at the ripe old age of five, dabbling a play with crayons on paper and forcing my poor family to sit down and watch the show. As I recall, the name was “Santa Claus is coming”. Ever since that time, writing has been a passion of mine and I have been writing periodically and this is actually my third attempt at public writing.

I started my second passion around my tenth birthday when I obtained my first camera. It was a Coca Cola “bribe” and the brand was Kodak. It took really nice photos and I used it for several years, snapping and developing my own black and white photos.

As to my third passion… Well I guess you can call work a passion! It was before I turned twelve. First as a part time job after school and on weekends and naturally during every possible holiday I was off from school! And now over thirty years and a few degrees later, I’m getting my twenty year marker in the world of IT next year.

So there you have it, what, why, who, how and here we are!

Enjoy this first post ever on Rantings Of A Third Kind re-run:

Four Options For Coffee

“Coffee – the finest organic suspension ever devised. It’s got me through the worst of the last three years. I beat the Borg with it”Captain Kathryn Janeway

The Four Options Of Coffee

1) Good
2) OK
3) Drinkable
4) Yak

How to recognize bad coffee:

1) Looks like tea, doesn’t taste like tea and certainly not like any coffee you’ve ever tasted!
2) Sticky gooey stuff sticks on your tongue: Looks like tar, tastes like tar!
3) Your face twitches in a funny way: Not funny good, but funny bad.
4) Coffee with milk: Except when it’s ice coffee, with lots of coffee, a little ice and hardly any milk.

You know it’s an excellent cup when the coffee is:

1) Black.
2) The spoon melts in it before you manage to stir.
3) You have a burned after taste in your mouth for several hours after your last cup of the day.
4) It’s ten o’clock in the evening and you are still drinking it.

Note: Why you would actually stop drinking coffee at any hour is beyond me!

Service or no Service, That is the Question

“Someone calling oneself a customer says
she wants something called service?”

Service or no Service, That is the Question

Those of us who work in the field of Information Technology know very well, that nothing is as certain: If something can go wrong, it will go wrong, especially when you least expect it. Oddly enough, the supposedly most reliable functionality used on daily bases tends to break down most frequently.

This is also true for any IT related appliances. Then you realize you need to call for help. But sometimes it seems getting the support for the actual issue at hand can be difficult at best.

For your amusement, a telecommunication between a PC Help Desk agent and the end user as it may have happened in real life:

“PC Service Desk, how may I help you today?”

“Hello, Yes, I have a problem with my emails, it seems I cannot send any.”

“I see. Would you be able to answer a few basic questions before we can start troubleshooting your issue?”

“Yes of course, fire away!”

“Thank you Ma’am. First question: Have you been diagnosed with any kind of debilitating disorder?”

“Umm… no.”

“Good. Next question: Are you currently experiencing nausea, dizziness, headache or dryness of the mouth?”

“No?”

“OK. Moving on: Do you feel numbness or swelling in any of your extremities?”

“No!”

“Are you currently on any kind of medication?”

* Getting annoyed *

“What has any of this got to do with my issue with email?”

“Just answer the questions Ma’am so we may move on!”

“Fine! I took some antihistamine this morning.”

“I see. Would you mind if we establish a link to your PC?”

“No of course not, please do!”

“Excellent. When you see the pop-up window, just click on the ‘accept’ choice”

“Done”

* A window with a face of the Help Desk person appears on the PC screen *

“Can you see me Ma’am?”

“Yes I see you clearly.”

“Great, we can see you as well.”

“OK, so now can we get back to my issue?”

“Hold on Ma’am. Can you stand up?”

“What?”

“Please stand up!”

“OK, standing up!”

“Now, please walk a few meters in a straight line to your left, then back to your right”

* Shaking head but complying *

“Walking…”

“Perfect. Now, stand perfectly still, move your right hand to the tip of your nose and back down again.”

* Frustrated sigh *

“OK…”

“Fine, now please do the same with your left hand.”

* Requested activity completed *

“Excellent Ma’am! We are all done here. Thank you for your co-operation and calling our emergency service desk! Have an excellent day!”

“What the… hold on! What of my issue with the email?”

“HAVE A GREAT DAY MA’AM! Goodbye!”

“But.. OK, Bye!”

* Sighing hevily *

* Looking around the office for colleagues *

“Does anyone else have an issue with their email?”

“Yes!”
“Me too!”
“Yup!”
“Diddo!”

“Did any of you call the help desk?”

“NO!”
“Never!”
“Not me!”
“Not in a million years!”

Saying out loud: “OK, then! Guess it’s back to work!”

Thinking: ‘Guess I just have to fix the issue myself!’

Lesson learned: “Self service is the best service!”
