The windy air bend
Flying to the world’s end
For their leisure time to spend

Swans

Poetry & Photography
An homage to the Swan, the national bird of Finland

suomi-2011-2-euro-suomen-pankki-200v-varitetty-700x700

“The swan, like the soul of the poet, By the dull world is ill understood” Heinrich Heine

Swans

Majestic and regal
Equal to an eagle
A bird of the royals
Worthy of the nobles

Beauties in flight
Whitest of knights
From the blue skies
Watch the dive

The black swan
Swimming at dawn
Her dark shadow
Contrast to snow

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,

By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

Birds

Face to face
Eye to eye
This was one race
Which could go awry

Standing there
Assessing me
Its glare
Devouring me

Without any warning
Flying across the air
Giving me the scare
Looking with scorning

No escape
Its mouth agape
It tilted its head
Quoth the bird “Polly wants a cracker”

Photography & Poetry: A Day in Nature

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished” Lao Tzu

A Day in Nature

Sitting on a swing
Not worrying about a thing
Enjoying the simple life
Without a stinger or a strife
The air almost like silk
Time slowly passing by
Not one trouble in sight

Observing, watching, looking
What is nearby cooking

The hedgehog sipping it’s milk
The squirrel with it’s tail high
A bird gliding in mid flight
The flowers in the wind crooking

The clouds hanging softly in the sky
Exhaling, letting out a sigh
The last rays of sun on the skin
What a perfect fin
For a July summer’s day
The grass in a gentle sway

Photo 101: Day Fourteen: Scale & Observation

Observe your scene before pressing the shutter, considering how all the elements in the frame interact with one another. Make an object appear larger through a ground-level POV.
