Day Two: “Mystery” — Manipulate Light

* A photo can create a mood and communicate an idea that transcends its subject. At this performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival, there was a sense of anticipation, enhanced by dramatic lighting that revealed silhouettes on stage.

“Oh, the summer night, Has a smile of light, And she sits on a sapphire throne” Bryan Procter

Red Light

Something extremely mystic?
Or a red light district?
In the midst of suburbia?

“That is very unheard of”
The elderly lady scoffed

“I will surely get a hernia
Unless I leave for Serbia!”
And, she was off

Day One: Water

* Photography means “drawing with light.” When you take a picture with your camera, you use and record light to create an image. When we’re out and about, we often use the sun — our most abundant light source — to capture our scenes.
* For today’s poem, experiment with haiku — a short poetic form that works particularly well with nature-themed poetry.
o The haiku is a Japanese verse in three lines. Line one has 5 syllables, line 2 has 7 syllables and line three has 5 syllables. Haiku is a mood poem and it doesn’t use any metaphors or similes. Usually when Haiku is taught the students are only given the restriction of the number of lines and syllables.

“Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it” Lao Tzu

Dark Liquid

Still water on ground
Dark cloud let it fall down
Light nowhere found

With a hop and skip
Over the puddles I step
My damn shoe got wet

Summer Dwelling (WP Developing Your Eye I)

Day One: “Home” — Get Oriented

When you think of home, what do you imagine? You might picture a house from your past, your favorite neighborhood hangout, or a city you miss. And while home is often found on a map, it can also be less tangible: a loved one, a state of mind, a forgotten time.

“If you go anywhere, even paradise, you will miss your home” Malala Yousafzai

Summer Dwelling

Hidden from prying eyes
In the overgrown garden lies
A cottage made with love
Its owner fits like a glove

Invitations to stay are rare
But once you shown you care
A letter you will get in the mail
Just a few rules you should not fail

Do not smoke in your bed
Always put the tools back into the shed
And should you feel the urge to stay
Leave before the end of the play

“It’s usually our opposites who complement us best, because they’re the only ones who can balance us out.”

Opposites for The Daily Post

Out with the old
In with the new
Even if it’s made of gold
There’s nothing we can do?

Opposites for The Daily Post

But what if
We change it?
A new coat of paint
To look less quaint?

Looks won’t be deceiving
It’s all in the matter of perceiving
We can hide it
Or even camouflage it

It’s still an old version
Even after the conversion
But we need a little diversion
Even to the strongest aversion

So now, a new lease
And together in peace
With the neighbours of new
And no one says “ew!”

Chocolate bars on a Rainy Day

raindrops-keep-falling-on-the-table-1

When it rains and pours,
Thunderstorm with lightning
Can be very frightening
All the outside flickering
Windy draught, from all doors
Better not stand there shivering
Get under the covers
Think, what wonders you can discover
In a big, big chocolate bar!

Old Tree

Ye old tree
How I envy thee
Growing strong
With a life very long
Even the birds
Singing you a song
What could go wrong?

Well,
Give me a chainsaw, and I’ll show you

Wouldn’t killing it be a pity?”
