Trees in Threes

Three times a tree
Calculable, to a certain degree
If you paid the fee
You will receive the key
To the rules of three

Open Windows

Open windows
For all seasons
Ask for no reasons
You just won the bingo
Just step in
And let the party begin

Birds-eye View

Sitting, watching, observing
From it all, everything learning
Finally finding what it was searching
Into large wings morphing
And into the winds surfing

I am who I am (Writing 101, Day Five: Hook ’em with a quote)

Writing 101, Day Five: Hook ’em with a quote

A blank page can be intimidating. Sometimes it’s helpful to use someone else’s words to give you a boost. Today, use a quote or passage from something you’ve read to introduce your post.
The type of quote you choose is up to you. Maybe the passage is something you’d like to comment on, or is one of your favorite quotes. Or maybe you read a great essay the other day, and one of its lines made you think.

1968

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken” Oscar Wilde

I am who I am

I am
What I am
Simply
Just
Because
I want to be

I am a closet writer
I am also intensely hyper
I am some kind of photographer
I am also a videographer
I am fifty year old lady with an attitude
But not without much gratitude

So what if I wear my hair short
So what if I sometimes snort
So what if I wear pink at my age
So what if I feel comfortable on a stage
So what if I wear a shorter than short skirt
So what if I’m a bit of a flirt

Blogging 201, Day Five: Free Day!

Blogging 201, Day Five: Free Day!

We know there’s been a lot to digest, so today is a free day! Use it to spend more time on something you didn’t quite grasp the first time around, to experiment with more headers and backgrounds, or to offer feedback and support to others.

Pro tip: If you want a place to play with colors and images without worrying about affecting your blog, create a free, private test blog where you can experiment to your heart’s content away from the public eye. Here’s how.

images-1

“A blog is neither a diary nor a journal. Many people think of blogging in relation to those two things, confessional or practical. It is neither but includes elements of both.” Lemn Sissay

Blogging 201, Day Five, Free Day

* Test blog: (https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/10/30/test-blogs/)
* Test drive themes and explore their options to find which you like best.
* Try different layouts — one sidebar, or two? A static home page? Custom menus? — and see what suits your content.
* Practice your WordPress.com skills. Insert a tiled gallery of images, or embed a few tweets. Play with post formats. Create a custom form, and tweak the fields. Get comfortable with the tools at your disposal.
* Give CSS a try. Hide a post’s metadata or change the padding around images without worrying that you’ll accidentally delete your header or turn your font purple.

This is an excellent and useful tool! Rather than accidentally mess up your live blog, I was able to fool around with “what could be”.

Summa sumarum: I will run my simulation on new ideas, code and what have you in the testbed from now on as I endeavour to improve my blog. But on that same note, and not to repeat myself once too often, I will keep my blog as is, at least for time being.

Keep calm and keep on blogging!

Blogging 201: Day Five: Make the Most of Your Archives

“Breathe. Know that the Internet has no eraser” Liz Strauss

Blogging 201: Day Five: Make the Most of Your Archives

The internet is ephemeral — you publish a post, and it sinks to the bottom of your blog before you know it. You’re competing with breaking news and dealing with short attention spans.
Readers and search engines love seeing new content on your homepage, but you can keep things even fresher by highlighting your archives: your best posts, hidden gems, and timeless content. After all, if a reader just found you, it’s all new to them.

Today’s assignment: Integrate a feature to draw traffic to your older content like a widget, related posts, or a “Best of” page.

Why do this?
• Because a go-to page compiling your best posts is the simplest way to get readers to your content — you never know which post pique someone’s interest, so make the good ones easy to find.
• Because while your About page does a great job introducing you, a curated selection of posts further illustrates your perspectives.
There are a few different ways to do this; one (or more) is bound to work for your blog.

Previously on Rantings Of A Third Kind
A page for Photography was designed
To be country specific was defined
And all the related posts to combine

The page for Daily Poem briefly existed
To pending status it was soon listed
For more than one per day a poem coexisted
And to an overwhelming task insisted

Yesterday, Throwback Thursday was introduced
Much more traffic it did produce
Not even Bruce could reduce
And it did give the creator much more juice

Gidgets, gadgets, all types of widgets
On the pages already existed
To name but a few
And give them their due

Top posts, calendar, pages and archive
Better give me the high five!
Before going live
On today’s trial

A showcase for most favourite posts
As presented by the host
Could be the thing of the week
Or maybe something else ya seek?
