Social Media? It’s a social construct I assume?

Social Media? It’s a social construct I assume?

I the platform formerly known as twitter
Had suddenly found themselves in a bit of a pickle
The users always having been quite fickle
Suddenly the lot of them turning bitter!

Those crowds, always oh so very loud
Finding their consolation in other places
Regrouping the darkest corners of the internets
But those kinds of places usually have bad effects

So, what now to do, when the option is to lose
All those mostly faceless and anonymous friends of the world?
The shared memories of whatever topic, fandom or chat disappearing
Into the bits and bytes unknown heaven?

Maybe pick up a book or go out for a walk?
Maybe even spend some time with the family estranged and distraught
Just a few suggestions to rid of the anxiety caused by the FOMO kicking in
The fear of missing out an all those unimportant and useless things!

Becuase the bird have finally flown out of its nest
Most likely dropped out with a stone as though like a pest
Now the big corporation ruling the world, or so I’ve heard
Surely not a surprise, even if not nice, alas, just try, to breathe

The world really did not end, now did it?

The Year, 2016

Posted in Simply Poetry

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come,
whispering, ‘It will be happier.’ “
Alfred Lord Tennyson

The Year, 2016

A year of joy, a year of sorrow
Sometimes thinking, there is no tomorrow

Two-Thousand and Sixteen
You made us wanna scream
One day a true horror movie
Which nobody wanted to see
Afterward, in our beds we lay
Out of control and in full dismay
Then, come next day,
We all got high and groovy
Fulfilling our duties
Like good soldiers, after a ‘smoothie’

Ups and downs
Laughs and frowns
Too many mishaps
To close all the gaps
What to do with that?
Live everyday in fear?
Or just roll over
And wait for the new year?

Oh, Two-Thousand and Sixteen
You left us conflicted
Can we ever another year trust
Or suspect it’s here to destroy us
Maybe this type of thing was predicted
Or maybe something just shifted
One unlucky moment
For a while in torment
Then, a brightly shining object
Gave us fulfillment
And all hope was restored
Finally looking forward
To a happy ending?

Maybe, but before this poem’s sending
Some thinking time to be spending
Planning ahead
So next time, no need to be scared
But for now, for a brighter future toward
I am hopefully on board
And at finish line stating
“I got a score!”

“Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” Ira and George Gershwin

Can Do Attitude

(This one is a must sing ;P)

You say neither, I say either
You say potato, I say tomato

Potato, tomato
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say sell, I say buy
You say it can’t be done
I say it will be fun

Oranges, apples
What the hell happened?
They don’t rhyme
I don’t mind
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say I’m boring
I say you snoring
You say it’s very bad
I say don’t be sad

Boring, snoring
“What the hell happened to this, song(?)?”
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say it’s a fake
I say a piece of cake
You say you’re such a jerk
I say it will work

Jerk, work
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say I’m obsessive
I say I’m positive
You prefer negative
I say my glass is full

“What?
You keep loosing the rhyme!”

“Oh, don’t be such a bore!”

“No, I’m just sore,
Because you keep singing off key!”

“Oh, please,
You are even worse, and don’t try to flee!”

Worse, off key
Let’s call the whole thing off

“OK, so let’s try this again one more time?”

“Fine! And this time make it rhyme!”

You say I like it plain
I say you aren’t quite sane
You say It’s not so simple
I say smile and get a dimple

Simple, dimple,
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say I’m going home
I say you don’t like it alone
You say let’s end this song
I say play the gong!

Song, gong
Let’s call the whole thing off

“So what now?
You’re just going to quit?”

“Yeah, that is the idea in ‘going home’, as in leaving!”

“So then, we must part?”

“Oh don’t me smart, have a heart!”

“Maybe try one more time, my way?”

“Like the song title or the highway?”

“No, with the positive attitude!”

“Without the platitude?”

“Fine?”

“Wine?”

*Snort!*

You say I like it here
I say I like everywhere
You say maybe we can
I say let’s can can!

Can, can, yes we can
Let’s call the calling off, off
Now!
