Elements and Symbols

“If, as a chemist, I see a flower, I know all that is involved in synthesizing a flower’s elements.
And I know that even the fact that it exists is not something that is natural. It is a miracle”
— Albert Hofmann

Elements and Symbols

Undiscovered
Laying dormant
Recovered
By an informant

The symbols drawn
Onto the unknown elements
Before the early dawn
Possibly as ornaments
Signs of prediction
Part, of some ancient superstition

Colourful
But fearful
These elements and symbols
Remaining a riddle
But nothing to belittle
Possibly the initials
Of gods from the past
Carved into stone
For ages to last

Green Taking Over

“No water, no life.
No blue, no green”
Sylvia Earle

Green Taking Over

Green, is the front yard
Green, is the colour of the greeting card
Green, is the mind of this bard
Green, you cannot discard

Green, now also Red Rover
Green, like the four leaf clover
Green, is summer’s exposure
Green, is taking over

Red Rose

“A rose by any other name…”

Red Rose

A beautiful red rose
Now, fully grown
Standing, in a tall pose
Waiting, for the one it chose

“Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun”
Randy Pausch

One – Two – Fun

Red headed
Pen for a body
None too snotty
Just a little naughty
Always jolly
Is this little dolly
Ready,
For the utmost folly

Looking for a play
Sometimes, a needle in the hay
Never too long to stay
With fun in its veins
It cannot be detained
Like a hurricaine
It flees this very plane
Looking, for a new game

“Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun”
Randy Pausch

One – Two – Fun

White headed
Green bodied
One minded
Fun winded

Sitting on the sidewalk
Always on the stalk
For a little distraction
Some kind of action
Of the fun variety
With a sense of propriety

Welcome

“Our house, in the middle of the street”
Madness

Welcome

Welcome, to our house
For a stay or just a browse
Be all welcome, even a mouse
Just remember, to wear a shirt
Or at least, a pretty blouse

Brick in the Wall

“Poetry is the art of creating imaginary gardens with real toads”
Marianne Moore

Brick in the Wall

Just another brick in the wall
On this oldest of town halls

Up, up, the rugged stones yourself haul
Reaching the top, you might feel quite small
But when you stand up, and do not fall
You feel yourself, getting quite tall

No time to stall
And to be, another brick on that wall

Memento

Memento

A woven tapestry
A memory canvas
A colourful fantasy
A memory, of Atlantis

Harness

It’s not easy to harness
Light, from the darkness
But even in the deepest shadow
A blooming life will grow

Road Travelled

“Poetry is the art of creating imaginary gardens with real toads”

Road Travelled

The road travelled
Was filled with gravel
As life slowly unraveled
Exposed, to unwanted battles
Sometimes, treated like cattle
Our cages slowly rattled
Until reaching, the promised castle
On this long road, travelled
