Before I go

Posted in Simply Poetry

“I believe that if life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade…
And try to find somebody whose life has given them vodka, and have a party”
Ron White

Before I go

I promised myself to take it slow
So just one more drink before I go
Boy, did that line have me sold
In this oldest of stories ever told

Now before you start with your hate and scold
And all things out of proportion blow
Let my simple story before you unfold

It had been, a damned hard week
On the first day, the future looked at best bleak
I felt nauseous, I felt weak
Not knowing where to look or what to seek

Monday, Tuesday, they were slow
Wednesday, I got a little bold
Thursday hit, also the proverbial fan’s shit
Finally Friday, lucky Friday
This was ultimately my day!

Things got done
Now it was time for some fun
So before I got to go
I just yelled ‘Hello!’

What else did you expect?
No more projects
No more work
(That lousy jerk!)
Only a time to hit the road
And let the fun times start to flow

Oh, and just in case you wondered,
And called out my number:
It was just a weekender
Spent on this bender

All work and no fun
Pardon the pun
Would start all over again
When dreaded Monday begins

Solitary

“Everyday life is like programming, I guess.
If you love something you can put beauty into it”
Donald Knuth

Solitary

Peaceful and silent
On this solitary island
Like a rough uncut diamond

Where blue meets blue
In the waters and skies hue
There is really not much to do
Maybe, just maybe
This is really good for you

Yes, this is my land
Here is were I stand
Just because, I can

Family

Family

Please do not stop and stare
Because, this, is a family affair

We stand here
Huddled together
Like the proverbial
Bird of the same feather
Or maybe,
There is a too tight tether
Binding us like leather?

But never mind
Just be kind
Leave us to our devices
Our familiar vices
And for them
Do not us despise

For we are
Who we are
A family
Of roses
Standing here
In our poses

Painting

Flowers painted on a canvas:
Better than nature?
Possible, for longer they last?

Imitated reality
Possibly a guarantee
For the prosperity
Nature’s beauty to see
When all that you now see
Has long since passed

Cloudy, With Low Chance of Rain

Cloudy, With Low Chance of Rain

Sometimes,
When it shines
It may also rain
In the skies
Onto the plane

You see,
It may be,
That the gods dined
Spilled some wine
Despite the weather fine
Not out of spite
Or us to smite
But just because the bright
Of the sunlight
Hit their eyes
The hand slipped
The chalice tipped
And the damage
Was done

Instead of whining
Of the gods’ fine dining
Just stand outside
With your mouth wide
And enjoy
The nature’s nectar
Maybe,
With a piece of cheddar
In this very fine
Weather

Ripples

Ripples

When it comes to you,
I am quite predictive
And yes,
Utterly and deeply committed
Even though,
I may feel a little conflicted

I know,
I am very addicted
Sometimes,
To the point of wicked
But only you,
My rippling dark brown liquid
Can make me
Totally uplifted

Which Way?

“Everyday life is like programming, I guess.

Which Way?

Should I have stayed,
Or should I have gone?

Which way was up,
Which way did the flow go?

Did I make the right turn,
When I should have taken left?

Was it a mistake,
Or was the end justified by the means?
Much may be at stake
Or so it usually seems

Did I read the sign correctly,
Or maybe,
It was just elementary?

Exist

“I exist as I am,
that is enough”

Exist

I exist
I am

Try to resist
If you can

But frankly,
I don’t really
Give damn

Daylight Savings

“I don’t mind going back to daylight saving time.
With inflation, the hour will be the only thing I’ve saved all year”
Victor Borge

Daylight Savings

Lost an hour
Feeling sour
Without power
Like a flower
Without petals
A tangy metal
Taste in my mouth
Things going south
All because of daylight savings
There are no other cravings
Than sleep one more hour

Rock and a Hard Place

“If there is a wrong time and a place, I’ll be there!”

Rock and a Hard Place

rock

I was stuck
Between a rock
And a very hard place
Wondering
Should I go
Or should I stay

If I go
Will it be slow?
If I stay
Will I end up
In dismay?

Which ever I choose
Something I may loose

But, what if,
Instead
Looking ahead
The constant flow
Of the middle road
Just taking it easy
And oh so very slow

hard-place
