Mundane Monday

“Who can say what astonishments are hidden inside the most mundane being?”
Kate DiCamillo

Mushrooms

Look what the rain brought:
Mushrooms, and not store bought
Popping up from the ground
Making a squishing sound
And waiting to be found

Closed Gates

“What can be found,
behind door number two?”
Surely a question,
Answered only for a few

A Journey to the Island (WP Writing: Intro to Poetry)

Day Four_ Journey

* Today, write a poem about a journey. You could channel your excitement about a trip you’re about to embark on (or just returned from), comment on the mental progress you witnessed someone make, or focus on the struggles, pleasures, and extreme emotions that travel can bring about.
* Enhance your poem with a simile if you’d like — it’s a common poetic device that uses words like “as” or “like” to show similarity between two unconnected concepts.

“Never go on trips with anyone you do not love” Ernest Hemingway

A Journey to the Island

trip-1

The long trip survived
We had finally arrived

For long the journey
Had been planned
Sometimes with moods of stormy
With many a doors slammed

But now, as I am sitting
A view in front of me fitting
My mood is calmer than the sea
And intentions anything but flee

We had finally arrived

Day Four: “Natural World” — Leading Lines

* A good photographer is a constant observer. Out in nature, we have opportunities to watch and study a scene, from big, sweeping changes — like the sky at dusk — to the tiniest details.

Purple Lines

Purple and wavy
Nothing too racy
Surely not a daisy
Just another pretty flower

Silver Lining

They say
“Every cloud
Has a silver lining”

Looking up to the sky
What do I find?
Fluffy white clouds
With fluffy white lines

Developing Your Eye, Day Four_ “Bliss”

* What is your idea of bliss? Is it an image of your family, laughing at the dinner table? A state of total relaxation, while lying on the beach? Your latest painting, drying on the canvas

Another cup of Coffee? (WP: Developing Your Eye I)

“Dear, another cup of coffee for you?”

“Oh yes please,
I could never refuse
Such an offer!”

“Ah, a cool summer’s breeze
I am possibly ready to sneeze
Better sit down on the bench!”

Said the little old wench
As she tightly held her thighs in a clench

Because that damned sneezing
Made her always queasy
And possibly a little uneasy
As to what might start to trickle
She started to giggle

“Oh, hurry up you old fool
And quickly sit down on that damned stool!”

Happy Birthday Nephew! for SL-Week 51

“Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Jim
Happy birthday to you.”

The Birthday Boy

“Dig into the cake son”
The father urged
His head turned
As the birthday boy
Was about to enjoy
The much deserved treat
Which was definitely not meat
But a juicy summer’s strawberry tart
Made by mom, straight from the heart

The Cake

The aroma of the strawberry cake
We all knew, that was not a fake
It was all done for the sake
Of the birthday celebration on this date

Awesome Friends of Summer (WP Intro to Poetry)

Poetry, Day Three: Friend

* Whether it’s about a time they saved your life or a moment when they disappointed you, write today’s poem about a friend: a person, an animal, or even a fictional character that’s close to your heart. You could also address a group of people, or an object that represents friendship for you.
* Looking to flex your poetic muscles today? Give acrostic a try: it’s a fun poetic form where the first letter of every verse combines to create a word or a message

“Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it” Russell Baker

Awesome Friends (of Summer)

A house sits on the bare island
Waiting for its summer friends
Exited, exhilarated, hoping, that
Soon, they’ll be arriving, from the mainland

On the look out through the lens
Many a lonely days was spent
Eternal fire always burning

For the long awaited to be returning
Rejoicing of the pending arrival
Impatience its only ally
Evening turning to morning
Now, the friend are returning
Damned be all fear
Summer, is finally here
