“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Anonymous

Take a Load off

A bench of stone, wood or wire
Can get you out of the dire
When feeling spent and tired
Take a load off and enjoy the fire

Our feathered friends
The windy air bend
Flying to the world’s end
For their leisure time to spend

Each time a present
But never a surprise

Vehicles of Various Kinds: Two

They are motorized
Some may even tantalize
All vehicles great and small
Some faster, some crawl
Dented or ship shape
You cannot escape
Stopping and glaring
With nostrils flaring

“I want one!”

Ode to My Little Car

“Good things come in small sizes”

Ode to My Little Car

It was a tiny little thing
Not the prettiest of the lot
The name had a soft ring
Almost like a plot

Fiesta…
Siesta…

Round and round in paces
Could see the look on others faces
‘Surely that is not the car to buy’
‘To her money she would kiss goodbye’

Trying it on for size I did
Smiling like a little kid
Spite what others may have though
This car was surely bought

It wasn’t quite what expected
Less is not more, had to respect it

Tempted by a car with muscle
The salesman tried to hustle
Something made me turn to look
The little car had gotten me hooked

Back and forth I went
Trying not to get bent
It was calling me I could hear
Trying hard not to get near

But
Fear not
Reason won in the end

After all
The muscle car was too tall
And lets face it
I got hitched

The tiny car was kin
All is well in the end

Lesson learned: Think big, buy small!

“Just an FYI: Thursday the 12th is just as rare at Friday the 13th.”

Throwback Thursday 2016-02-04

Each Thursday we walk down memory lane and dig deeply into the archives of Rantings Of A Third Kind. For these posts, I have chosen some of my personal favourites. Some of them may tickle the funny bone, some even provoke thoughts and some of them will give you a view of the world in photographs taken by yours truly.

Here are a few featured today for your enjoyment today:

“Why is Monday so far from Friday, and Friday so near to Monday?”

Monday, Bloody Monday

Monday, bloody Monday
It is certainly not my fun day
Still five days until Friday
This could well be my die day

My calendar filled with meetings
No time for eating
Feeling like cheating
When trying to catch a break for peeing

No use in struggle or fighting
Almost worse than being struck by a lightning
Dealing with the disappointment
Because there is no ointment

Another working week has started
From my leisure time I was parted
Doing my best to survive
Just wishing to keep in the drive

Tell me, do I really hate Mondays
Or is it just the illusion of a fading Sunday?

” When in Rome, do as the Romans do”

Sisu, Sauna and Koskenkorva (Ode to Finns)

Finns, what a nationality
We have quite the ability
To enjoy ourselves
With life’s simple little things

Sauna, heated to at least eighty degrees
Surely hot enough to melt any cheese
Beating each other with branches of birch
Almost as purifying as absolution in a church

Sisu, the spunk, guts and percistence
We have plenty of through out our existance
Rally drivers, Nokia, Linux and the rest
We only deliver the best

Koskenkorva, pure spirit made out of barley
After drinking, don’t ride your Harley
The Swedes may prefer their Vodka
But for the Finns, it’s pure dogma

We have lakes and forrests in abundance
So please come and join us
For a visit in the green of nature
It won’t leave you denatured

Backstabbing

Is that a knife on my back or are you just happy to see me?”

I’ll stab you in the back, if you’ll stab mine

Call it suspicion or plain paranoia
Still not turning my back on ya
Perhaps a lack of trust in a fellow human
But definitely not a friendship in blooming

We come in friendship (shoot to kill)
That kind of kinship, gives you a chill
The pessimist would underline this cliche
And using “trust no one” as a catch phrase

Surely this rant was written in jest
Just something to get off my chest
If there was a lesson to be learnt, then just fine
At least you did not have to read between the lines
