Halo Effect (BEST OF 2016)

What after all, is a halo?
It’s only one more thing to keep clean”
Christopher Fry

The Halo Effect

What a surprise
Up in the skies
The sun got its halo
She was trying to lay low
But somehow
She was found
And awarded
With a ring of light
Shining ever so bright

“A railroad station? That was sort of a primitive airport, only you didn’t have to take a cab 20 miles out of town to reach it.” Russell Baker

Public transit, oh what joy!

Read this story of ploy

Early morning in January
I was really in a hurry
The venue was set in the city
And feeling a little giddy
After all travelling by train
Was not something to do in vain
Especially in the middle of winter
With temperatures below zero
And myself certainly no sprinter
And even less of a hero

Reaching the train station
After half jogging the way
Then I heard the notification
The train had been delayed
No indication as to arrival time
But they told us, all was fine
Just a minor snafu
The train would be there in a few

A few minutes went by
On the platform standing by
Then after a while
Waiting for the train to arrive
I was wishing I had taken the car
I would have been so very far

Oh what fun and joy!
Toes, fingers and nose freezing
The snow storm’s intensity increasing
Now I know, this was a winter’s ploy!

“It’s just the icing on the cake.
It is not the full cake”

Icing on the Cake

Icing on the cake?
Or a frosted snowflake?
Well, it sure looks like
Nature’s cook, got it baked!

Frost on the window
Frost on the ground
Frost in the trees
Frost on the leaves
Frost all around

“Well, what did you expect?
It’s winter, after all!”

especially in January!”

January 2017

Cozy
Even lazy
Yesterday
A little hazy
The moment
Of silence
Before
The dusk
But now
It’s different
It’s white
Outside

January 2017

Criss-cross
Like using,
Dental floss
Across
The snowy road
People and wheels
Slowly float
Today,
There is no boss
Just the substance
In the colour
Of white
Can you feel
How lite
We now are?

January 2017

“On our patio
Tiny flakes of snow
Flowing down slow
Curiously dancing
To the tune of the banjo
Almost like a nature’s show
Of the flamenco,
Dreaming like I was in Rio de Janeiro…”

“Whoa!
Did your head get a blow?
It’s only January the second, Joe,
And you’re dreaming,
In the colours of Picasso!
Lay off the booze
And go, have a snooze!”
