Blogging 101: Day Nine: Get Inspired By the Neighbours

Today’s assignment: write a post that builds on one of the comments you left yesterday. Don’t forget to link to the other blog!

I am cheating a little and writing today’s post from an inspiration I got while browsing the world wide word (press). This is a new acquaintance and the topic hit right home. For several reasons, first being that I am a *huge* fan of drag queens and RuPaul’s Drag Race, but also of the topic itself.

This is the post Open letter to Ginger Minj as written from the heart by this wonderful lady, Elizabeth, in her blog: Inside the Mind of a Dramatic Mother

I can relate to some extent on the issue of body image and the falsified images presented in the media. Being of an “older generation” the pressure wasn’t as bad when I was growing up, but looking at my younger sisters and their daughters, it seems the effect is quite clear.

Don’t take me wrong, looking nice and putting a little make up on, or a lot if you go on stage is great. A pair of nice heels and a pink dress, great, but as long as you do it for yourself, making yourself feel good, not for the benefit of others.

I am turning fifty in a week’s time and am finally comfortable with who I am, what I am and what I want. I have gained and lost weight over the years, but still felt mostly comfortable in my own skin. Apart from the dubious task of having to buy a new wardrobe with each size (or maybe that was fun after all!). I posed in nudes for artistic photographs, which was never a big thing for me. After all, us Finns like to sit in the Sauna naked with family, friends and even strangers!

I guess this summarizes the rant rather nicely:

“If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?” RuPaul

Glass Half Full or Half Empty

If you are a pessimist
It is not a pop quiz
Rather a simple truth
You don’t need to be a sleuth
The glass always half empty
Even if drinking plenty
Of Chablis
Oh what a bliss

Being an optimist
No need for an alchemist
The resources plentiful
And the glass always being
At least half full
Even without seeing
Somehow filling
With liquid most thrilling

Mind the realist
The idealist
Always the party animal
Nothing ever minimal
Fun, life or liquid
And will not quit
When served fast
A free glass

What you really need to know
Without a doubt or a show
Is that the secret
To never forget
To say, yes please

FREE STYLE WRITING CHALLENGE: WHAT WOULD YOU DEFINE AS THE TURNING-POINT OF YOUR LIFE?

“You go through life experiences. Each record captures a different turning point in my life” Keith Urban

WHAT WOULD YOU DEFINE AS THE TURNING-POINT OF YOUR LIFE?

I was nominated to the do the Free Style Writing Challenge a while ago by Lucy Danvers, her excellent blog Ice Coffee Couture
The aim of this challenge is really just to write non-stop for a period of time, so try it out!

My question for the challenge was:
WHAT WOULD YOU DEFINE AS THE TURNING-POINT OF YOUR LIFE, AND OR CAREER?

The question, raises my eye brows more than any other question would. To put it bluntly,
I guess am still waiting for mine to knock on the door.

That being said, I feel like a liar. Why, you ask?

I will tell you why. I probably should start by counting my blessings what I have achieved so far, both in work life and personal life. Looking back at my life, I really cannot pin point one specific turning point but several. Not all of them have turned out to be good ones, but they have taught me lessons, turning me into the person I am today.

But I would say that the most recent one would be when I started writing again. Well publicly that is. I never really stopped, rather moved to different forms of writing. This is my third try and hopefully the charmed one and so far I am convinced I will stay on this path and not let go. Granted it’s a long way from my “fantasy” of having a best seller or a produced screenplay. But I like the interactiveness of the World Wide Web in the blogging community. Instant feedback and knowing your product is something people actually enjoy.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying writing on the internet is not real work or real writing, it is and it is hard work as anything else. Simply because most of us have day jobs and continue to our second job of the bloggers world, possibly putting in another eight or more hours a day, and not getting paid for it. I must admit one thing though. As much as I love seeing my work published, I do have a love and hate relationship with the internet and all that which it contains. But as long as I am honest as a person, writer and a blogger, giving credit when credit is due, I feel I can survive the ugly too.

So my point here is, hold on to your dreams, try to realize them, but most of all: Keep calm and continue blogging!

Signing off!

Words: 371

How to do it:

Open an MS Word document (or Pages)

1. Set a stop watch or your mobile to 5 minutes or 10 minutes whichever challenge you think you can beat.

2. Your topic is at the foot of this post.

3. Fill the word doc with as many words as you want. Once you began writing do not stop.

4. Do not cheat by going back and correcting spellings and grammar with spell check in MS WORD (it is only meant for you to reflect on your own control of sensible thought flow and for you to reflect on your ability to write the right spelling and stick to grammar rules)

5. You may or may not pay attention to punctuation and capitals. However, if you do, it would be best.

6. At the end of your post write down ‘No. Of words =_____’ so that we would have an idea of how much you can write within the time frame.

7. Do not forget to copy paste the entire passage on your blog post with a new Topic for your nominees and copy paste these rules with your nominations (at least 5 bloggers).

I will nominate:

1) Chloe
2) Lee Hiller
3) E J Frost
4) Robin Seaton
5) Raine Fairy

My topic for you is:
Have you ever wished you were either older or younger?
What would you consider to be the benefits and possible problems?

The Voyeur Within

“I’m convinced we all are voyeurs. It’s part of the detective thing. We want to know secrets and we want to know what goes on behind those windows…” David Lynch

The Voyeur Within

Always looking
Something is cooking
Seeking, digging deeper
Some call me a peeper
Sometimes ashamed
If getting blamed
Going into hiding
Covering my eyes
Throwing the dice
Sneaking a peak
Through my fingers
Intrigued by life
As it lingers
Enjoying every moment
Eyes wide open
The thrill of getting caught
Present with every thought
Never out of malice
Only looking for that chalice
The reward of missing nothing
And seeing everything

Shall I Just Twitter Then?

“I worry we are spending too much time on Facebook, that we are losing our ability to connect with people on twitter”

Shall I Just Twitter Then?

“Good morning” I say when I arrive at the office. No response, from anyone.

“Good morning” My voice a little louder, but still no response.

“GOOD MORNING” I am now half shouting. I don’t believe it, no response. Everyone sitting there staring at their screens, small, medium and large.

“Fine” I say to myself, “I shall just twitter ‘Good Morning’ then!”

Suddenly, my screen filled with pings, indicating several responses to my greeting – in Twitter, that is!

Today’s social convention, how could I have forgotten!

Good God Get a Grip Girl!

You may
Think
You’re the
Cat’s meow
But let’s see
How you
Really feel
After I
Tell you
About
What you
Actually are

I’m not
Trying to
Come for you
Offend you
Upset you
Or even
Resent you
In any way

But this is
What it is
How it is
Really like

Why
Don’t you
Give yourself
A really good
Look in
The mirror
And tell me
Can you
Get a grip
On it!

Four Options For Coffee

“Coffee – the finest organic suspension ever devised. It’s got me through the worst of the last three years. I beat the Borg with it”Captain Kathryn Janeway

The Four Options Of Coffee

1) Good
2) OK
3) Drinkable
4) Yak

How to recognize bad coffee:

1) Looks like tea, doesn’t taste like tea and certainly not like any coffee you’ve ever tasted!
2) Sticky gooey stuff sticks on your tongue: Looks like tar, tastes like tar!
3) Your face twitches in a funny way: Not funny good, but funny bad.
4) Coffee with milk: Except when it’s ice coffee, with lots of coffee, a little ice and hardly any milk.

You know it’s an excellent cup when the coffee is:

1) Black.
2) The spoon melts in it before you manage to stir.
3) You have a burned after taste in your mouth for several hours after your last cup of the day.
4) It’s ten o’clock in the evening and you are still drinking it.

Note: Why you would actually stop drinking coffee at any hour is beyond me!

Just Try It!

“Don’t do as I do, do as I write” Gun Roswell

Just Try It!

Being online
Sitting in the front line
Twenty four seven
Calling it heaven
Made it your tantra
Repeating that mantra
An existence with a twist
If you’re not on Google
You don’t exist

At your disposal
Hear out this proposal

Turn off the computer and phone
Don’t worry about being left alone
Forget the social media hype
For a while at least
Tame that beast
There is this thing called, life
Out there, somewhere
Lurking about
Just try it out!
You might actually find it
Better than expected
Feeling reconnected
And maybe even accept it

Fixing It

“When I told my doctor I couldn’t afford an operation, he offered to touch-up my X-rays” Henny Youngman

Fixing It

The day has arrived
In three months’ time
Finally going under the knife
Oh what a life
Facing the surgeon
Guess it was urgent
After all
This time spent
In the end
Hasn’t been a ball
Not a fan of hospitals, needles or blood
It’s such a crud
But not being in control
Is the worst of all
Lying unconscious
Body and mind
Out of commission
Please be kind
Without condition
Wish me luck
Let’s hope the doctors
Won’t fuck it up!
