“The use of traveling is to regulate imagination with reality, and instead of thinking of how things may be, see them as they are.” – Samuel Johnson

Vienna by Night

When on a walkabout
On the city’s streets at night
Drawn towards the castle lights
Shining ever so bright

The past has its resonance
In the architecture with elegance
You may even glimpse an eminence
Roaming around the residence

Let the feelings of lavish
Your daily routine vanish
And enjoy a sip from a chalice
In the Schönbrunn Palace

Space Oddity in Vienna

“This is ground control: Major Tom, please respond: over”

“This is Major Tom: over”

“Major Tom, we have located your space pod: over”

A moment of silence on the receiving end before response:
“Um… Where exactly did you find it: over”

“City of Vienna, Austria: over”

A muffled “oops” is heard from Major Tom’s end:
“O-K, ground control. Um, any chance you could give me a lift there?: over”

“Roger that M T! By the by, we do not seem to be able to track you on the device: over”

“Well, I am kind of in a situation here…” odd noises heard on the background, “What if I just send my coordinates and you can send vehicle, OK? : over”

In the ground control, quick typing can be heard and in the distance, a loud O.M.G.
“Ah, we got your location. Sending extraction right away: over”

“A big thanks, ground control! End transmission”

Back at the ground control, the two officers are staring at the screen where the location of Major Tom is blinking. The other officer turns to look at the other one:

“I can’t believe he actually ended up there…”
“Yeah, me neither”
The officers continue to stare at the blinking screen, both shaking their heads in disbelief…

And what was the location where Major Tom had ended up in?
Well…

World Wide Wednesday : Sunrise is Around

World Wide Wednesday

Sunrise is Around

In the early morning hours
After waking up and taking a shower
I am walking to the beach
Where, at this hour, no one else is at reach
Taking a preferred seat
On the large bolder, a perfect holder
Then, waiting for a moment longer
My eyes slowly adverting towards the corner
Where a faint spot of light appears
Over there, at the calm sea, but somehow, in the stratosphere
I watch the tiny speck of light
Turning into a most precious sight
Reds, yellows turning into white
As the spectacle of a gorgeous sunrise
I have finally witnessed

World Wide Wednesday : Fast boat, Slow life

“Travel the world, see, everything!” Gun Roswell

World Wide Wednesday

Fast boat, Slow life

On this island, filled with a lot of sun
The life, can easily turn to, too much fun
Fast boats, fast friends, fast food
Maybe, there is something else for you to do?

Like:

Walk to the seaside, in a really slow pace
Keep a look out for the natives, as they stay
Under the protective shades, at midday
Then only, when the sun sets
Like them, make your own way
To the sandy shores of the land
Dive into the cool blue liquid
And then, let the life stand still
As the summer ends, way too quickly

World Wide Wednesday : Monument Market

“Travel the world, see, everything!” Gun Roswell

World Wide Wednesday

Monument Market

Exactly at noon
When the scorching sun
Hits the zenith
The local marketplace
Starts buzzing with life
As the tourist and other types
Come out to play

There is no shade
And certainly, no shame

As to:

What you do
What you wear
What you eat
Who you look at
Who you talk to
Who you ignore

And don’t forget
The glorious set
Of monuments, buildings
History of any era
When you roam around
The old school agora

The water and sun
Can also be a source of fun
When the day is ending
Then, consider some time
In the harbour spending

Greece vs. Water for World Wide Wednesday

“There are plenty of places to dive, to swim or even row, in Greece, in a small cove” Gun Roswell

Greece vs. Water

Clear blue, endless, cloudless skies, and cool, refreshing blue waters
Suitable, for us lowly peasants, and even, for the kings daughters

The ancient, mighty monuments, surrounded, by the crystals glittering
The many images of the castles, forts and other similar types, on the surface reflecting

Waterfalls, existing in a garden or even, carved by nature
A calming effect, is just the same, no matter which way you venture

When the night slowly falls, and the time, totally stalls
The birds are taking their final flight, before tucking in, for the darkening night

Here I am, sitting, contemplating, for a moment, by the turquoise pool
Now, slowly changing, into deep dark colours, by the eerie shadows

Playing, on the surface, finally daring in, for a nightly dive, in the liquid space
Refreshing, rejuvenating, before finally, falling, into deep sleep in this heavenly place

Greece vs. Rock for World Wide Wednesday

“There is plenty of rock in good old Greece” Gun Roswell

Greece vs. Rock

Rocks piled, one by one
For miles, they seemed to go on
Maybe, it was a puzzle, the ancients tried to do
Or maybe, it was a fortress, for the chosen few

There it stands, visible from all over the land
A mighty pile of rock, a wall if you will, proudly stands
Make it what you will, a castle, a monument or ancient ruins
They old ones surely knew, when they built it, what they were doing

Here we are, the modern kind
Staring, gawking, wondering, of the find
I guess what ever the vision calls for
But in a good way, they had us all

We have written the history for ourselves
Memorizing the past, from the books on the shelves
Conjuring stories behind the old buildings and kind
Never knowing, where the truth, really lies

Travel in monochrome 2

“See the world in black and white, and a few greys too!” Gun Roswell

Travel in monochrome

When travelling around the world
World, this nice round blue orb you were on to hurled
Hurled, like a whirl wind out of the blue
Blue, as is the colour of the sky’s hue
Hue, derived from the ocean so cool
Cool, as the wind which blows on the sea

Sea, which can be soft and hard at the same time
Time, is what takes you around the planet
Planet so colourful, yet so black and white
White, as the clouds hanging from above
Above, is where I would like to be sometimes
Sometimes, when all I see is grey
Grey, is the colour of this beautiful place

Place, which is at it’s best every single day
Day, when the clouds are raining
Raining, and the world turns to monochrome
Monochrome, so many colours, but only one
One. like this gorgeous place we live on

Travel in monochrome 1

“Not all is glamorous in colour” Gun Roswell

Travel in monochrome

When all around you is in bright colour
Colour, which also has a pungent odour
Odour, which can be mostly nice
Nice, but when you look at it twice
Twice, may just be two times to much
Much as I love all the bright colours
Colours can also be these three
Three of the neglected ones
Ones which carry quite much
Much nuance as the other ones
Ones which are called grey

Grey and it’s sisters black and white
White is the perfect pristine one
One to co inside with the darker
Darker, darkest, call it black
Black as strong as night
Night, which fades in two grey
Grey which shimmers into all shades
Shades of the monochromatic rainbow
Rainbow with so many colours
Colours which are not visible
Visible to the naked eye at least
Least, just give them a try
Try on them for a size
Size so non existent it slims
Slims and makes you look so good
Good in black and white
White and then even some greys
Greys, which will then fade
Face away

Dreaming (WWW)

”I am always dreaming, of travelling, to other lands” Gun Roswell

WWW

Dreaming

Siting on the window sill, feeling, a strong will
Inside of me, to embark, on a journey, but still
I only keep dreaming, as life, seemingly
Will not give me even once an opportunity

To venture out there, where:
The skies are so much bluer
The people are completely fewer
The sun always shines
And the places are so fine

So, here I sit, on this same place
Where time and life in the same way stays
Never daring, only hoping, wishing and dreaming
That one day, just maybe, soon, I will dare
To venture, out there
