Night Time Horizon

Helsinki, Finland

“The night time is captivating, both in colour and light, all of them bright in the darkness, much more interesting too” Gun Roswell

Night Time Horizon

The city lights, shining ever so bright, reflected on the waters surface, but no purchase for them to be found, as rippling and swaying, slowly and surely disappearing, into the depths of the darkness, the liquid them consuming, blending into the murky waters, never to be seen again, until the time, when new lights beam upon the shores, as the city skyline will come to life, somewhere there in the far away horizon, long after the sun has been arising, and set for the durance of the dimming night.

The delicate window

Seurasaari, Helsinki

“The old frail construct, made of glass and a wooden frame, try not to breathe too hard near it or it might just fall a part“ Gun Roswell

The delicate window

Old, frail, inconvenient, hard to handle?

Just the same, it has lasted a long while, even giving a few smiles, the delicate framework, the painted artwork, all of it from the past, refitted to a modern day cast.

And so, serving a purpose once again, the window, lending a peek through time, as how else would any of us learn, of our past, the long history, present there, through this, very old looking glass.

The bridge and the tower at nightfall

Helsinki, Finland

“The nightly crossing over the bridge, will you to a bell tower lead, the road ahead well lit, so you won’t trip!“ Gun Roswell

The bridge and the tower at nightfall

The bridge over the murky waters, the sun long since set, the last remnants of the rays glowing red, hanging low over the nightly skies

The trouble here lies as over the bridge the need to trot, to get to the other side, where the place one calls home, resides

And so, with a heavy heart and a sigh, the task at hand starts, as there is no try, only the effort, of getting home, safe and sound

The noises of the nightly life loud, but luckily, the lights are on, even if far in between them all, they still give a hint, where to trot, and never step across, and end up in the deadly cold waters

Running never an option, the slip and slide easily stopping, the trip halting, coming to a dead end, literally, and so, choosing each step carefully, when headed toward the goal

Soon enough, the bridge has been crossed, the bell tower in sight, and what a pretty one it is in all its might, the home of the nightly wanderer dead ahead

City lights at night

Helsinki, Finland

“The night is a time to catch a glimpse to the slumbering city, lit up by artificial lights, shining ever so bright” Gun Roswell

City lights at night

The darkened places, where nobody stays at, not at this hour anyway, only a few strays, trying to make their way home, and then, the one who dares, to look for trouble, well, at least, snapping a few memories, of the city finally at peace, not really sleeping, but still, quiet and still.

And so, taking a walk around those streets, which usually are totally filled, with people, with cars, with life, during the time of light, are now sparse or rather void, of any kind of moving parts, as usually, some tend to sleep during the night, except perhaps a few whose work does not revolve around the clock.

The pix snapper moves on, catches the glimpses usually never seen during the light of day, and then, when all the empty space is spent, with a hint of a smiles, start making their long trek, back home,  as there are pictures to share, with those soon waking up, with the sun.

Small City Skyline

Helsinki, Finland

“The city ever changing, but some things simply remain the same” Gun Roswell

Small City Skyline

The city might be small in comparison to so many others, but there is no reason, to neglect and not to check out what it has to offer.

It may lay out there far in the north, but having its own mirth, with old school buildings, surrounded by the blue seas, the pearl of the Baltic Sea in a way, so do, stay for a while.

The gadgets small too, with a more than few sights to see, or then a tour around the city skyline, on a boat small but with terrific views, which ever way you choose to travel, this place, will not leave you in peril.

Orange and Tall Shadows in the Market Place

Helsinki, Finland

“It might be late in the summer, autumn time even, but the colours are as vivid as ever, in the local small market place“ Gun Roswell

Orange and Tall Shadows in the Market Place

The shadows so tall, as the setting sun is going down, now the summer is finally over, but fear not, as the colourful tents at the market place, will continue the spirit of the warm season long until the end of autumn, only disappearing with the first signs of snow, and even then, the more bolder shopkeepers, will brave the elements, while setting up their orange tents each and every day, until the winter storms settle over the place for good.

Enter the realm of the unknown

Seurasaari, Helsinki

“Dare to enter the realm of the old, the history, just be bold!” Gun Roswell

Enter the realm of the unknown

The entrance is finally open, so there really is no stopping, from anyone wanting to enter, this tempting realm, finally available for all those interested in getting to know, whatever happened before.

As going through this doorway of sorts, you will be entering the past, the very old, places from beyond our own time, been thrown back some few hundred years, but no worries, no fears, as getting stuck in there, will not happen here, not during the brief trip, unless… you trip.

The option is there, if you from the path away steer, so heed this warning with leer, the instructions are quite clear, stay on the marked path, as long as the tour lasts, venture away, and forever on the other side, in the past, your stay might just last.

After that, only through the looking glass will you be able to follow the lives of the modern world, as the observer, never a part of either side of the life, stuck in limbo, in the middle of the two realms, the past and the very now.

Visit Helsinki!

“Helsinki isn’t all that bad. It’s a very nice city, and it’s cold really only in wintertime” Linus Torvalds

At the Market Square

The hustle and bustle
The use of the rustle
All the customers
Lurking about this summer
The Market Square
The biggest fair
This side of town
The jewel of the crown
Bursting with life
Peacefully, without a strife
Roaming the stands
Even if not a fan
You may enjoy the ambiance
So come on down and take chance
