Let it snow!

“It might be snowing or then it rains, as nobody can really the winter weather explain“ Gun Roswell

Let it snow!

The weather outside might be quite the frightful, but hey as the song says, just keep up an open mind, then that forgotten smile you just might find, especially during the wintery season, as loving it over the summer is certainly no treason, and once the bad weather and darkness subsides, and the snow starts to gently onto the ground fall, it is almost a moment of time having stalled, as the world turns to a crispy clean surface and getting out there to play is most certainly not a burden.

So, let it snow by all means, even if it sometimes means, that you have the streets to keep clean, from the excess of the powdery stuff there piling up, but it’s all worth the hard work, as after the pavement is plowed, you can once again the others join, and recreate that fun you once found as a child all those years ago, while frolicking in the slippery and cold snow, but never mind, just dress up really warm and you are prepared to even take on the storm, so just let it snow, like it does in the old snow globe.

Winter’s window view

“The views from the windows in winter time are simply breathtaking, then again, if you venture to the cold weather outside, then your breath will most certainly be taken!” Gun Roswell

Winter’s window view

The views of the early morning or even mid afternoon, before the darkness arrives in the later time of the day, the sun shining, brightly, for once at least in the middle of this season, the blue skies and fluffy whites up there and the crispness of the cool and cold winter’s air, all those combined, sure do make a wonderful find, when every once in a while, you will remember to look outside the window, the views magnificently monochromic, compared to anything from the summer, but in contrast, these are the times, you don’t mind going back to, in the very heat of the warm season for sure. So, take a good long look, even if it is just the street and the neighbours nook, all covered with the snowy feature, a very cold but still somehow warm blanket of the season, reminding us all, it is time to take it slow and energise ourselves, before the other seasons with warmer weather will soon follow.

Just call me, Mrs Claus

“Santa has it great. I buy all the toys. He gets all the credit.” Mrs Claus

Just call me, Mrs Claus

You may call me, Mrs Claus
Without applause
Doing my bid
Without one single payment of a quid
Yuletide
Without this, proud bride
Of Santa Claus
Would be, just empty banter
No kind of jolly
Or celebration folly
Neither for me
Or even, for you

A Visit, up there, to the famous North Pole

O, how glorious would it be to set my heel upon the Pole and turn myself 360 degrees in a second!” Joseph Banks

A Visit, up there, to the famous North Pole

A quick trip
To the North Pole
A little hop and skip
To the beat of the drum roll

The elves busy at work
Their faces in a permanent smirk
No time for breaks or coffee
Not even a little toffee

The holiday season is upon us
Which has caused all the fuss
Be careful where you step though
You may end up in a pile of snow

Santa’s sleigh
Without delay
Flying over the river
Presents to deliver

Hitch a ride
In a blink of an eye
You’ll be landing
At the front door standing

Was it a dream
So it would seem
But then again
Life is but a dream

The tall shadows of winter

“The tall shadows of a low hanging sun in the winter time look gorgeous, but scary too”
Gun Roswell

The tall shadows of winter

First snow fell, heavily onto big piles, all over, the grey ground
Not one single spot of dirt, or other matter, was there, to be found
And as the sun started shining, on one slow afternoon leaving
Tall shadows across the snow in its wake, making shiny sparkles
Like tiny little diamonds, so gorgeous, that all those of us looking
At them, could for a fading moment enjoy the captivating spell
Of this one and bright winters day, after the long and cruel darkness
Broken if only for a tiny fraction of time, and then feeling fine
Almost divine, until it was once again, completely, and totally dark
But even after the bright sun was gone, remaining only, was
That one and hopeful spark, that one day soon, after the moon
Had gone to sleep, the sun would come back, and then maybe, stay
Forever, and then all of us dwellers could spend all of their days
Counting the newly formed, and various kind of shapely shadows
Sometimes tall, more often times short, but the hope of the light
No matter if it was shining bright, was in their own hearts, forever

Cross the frozen stream to get to the other side

“The weather had finally turned from the dreary damp darkness of the fall to the long over due and now perfect crisp frozen calm of the winter’s balm” Gun Roswell

Cross the frozen stream to get to the other side

The day emerging from beyond the moon and the stars, not quite the warm and expected as the day before, rather the cold and calm and frozen air, beating the face now in despair as as soon as door to the outside is opened, but that is no reason to stop hoping, that despite the snippy feel of the outdoors, something nice and gorgeous waits there to be explored, out there in the snow filled forest.

But, the first step to conquer before getting too the actual price, and to the something wonderful and nice, is to cross the river wide, which was only yesterday flowing wild with pride. But a nice surprise waited the traveller when reaching the site, as the flowing waters no longer taunting and snide, as all of it was now frozen to a solid surface, the wonders of this season and from Mother Nature, not a hater of any wanderer ready to make their way to the wintery scene, to admire the newly made formations of snow and ice, the sculpture like features and other kinds of creatures now roaming about the winter’s palace just beyond the frozen stream, for the travellers daring at reach.

A buggy ride in the wintry forest

“A horse, a carriage, some snow, a few trees, the road ahead free, certainly a concoction for a fun filled glee”

A buggy ride in the wintry forest

The snowed in forest, in the early morning hours, was a place for not a first choice visit, as the snow covered roads leading to the fields, were a chore, even for a four wheeler, let alone a short kind of bi-pedestrian being. The prospect of getting stuck or buried, in the piles and piles of cold snow which was slowly but surely filling all the land only yesterday seemingly covered with sand, as of now the white crisp blanket of winter had been lain upon all.

Then a soft whinny sounded from the barn just outside, and the lamp above the biped’s head, lit up like the decorated xmas shed, indicating an idea had formed, and perhaps the road ahead, could be more easily thread, in a carriage by a horse led. After all, it was the perfect weather for an excursion out to the wilderness, or at least to the nearby fields, and perhaps have a wintry picnic out there in the cold.

So feeling bold, packing up a basket and bundling up in warm clothes, taking out the buggy and the four legged equine, the ride ready for the day, hopping in the horse driven sleigh and out there driving, destination not so minding, after all, this was done on the whim, and the snowy rim, simply beckoning for a deep dive in.

A hidden cabin in the wintery woods

“It is so good to hide, we’ll, sometimes, especially during the hard winter times” Gun Roswell

A hidden cabin in the wintery woods

The snow had fallen during the dark night, still totally pristine as there was not a soul in sight
The nature around the forest area, calm and silent, even the wood dwellers absolutely quiet
The steps the outside taken, with the footfalls ever so light, in the surroundings now oh so bright
The cabin small and absolutely cozy, the interior rather comfortable despite the lack of creature comforts
But some of them still remained there, like electricity, running water and a few more of the affordables
Still, their lack would not likely had been even that noticeable, as the ambiance was anything but predictable
As all the beauty around the small cottage, more than made it up with all its beauty and dignity
And to top those visions out and all around, the morning sun was up and shining very brightly
Making the white blanket around covering most of the ground, glittering like the finest diamonds
And so, the days spent in and around the rather hidden safe space in the middle of the forest
Well who could have known to ask for a better place, where for a weekend, a week or a winter to stay and restfully the nights lay
As no modern all inclusive house or dwelling, could beat this nice small villa in a competition, even if there was none to begin with

Shadows of winter

“Spring time is here, but there is still so much snow on the ground“ Gun Roswell

Shadows of winter

The spring clearing the last remnants of a murky winter from all our minds. Granted, it is a good feeling after such a long and unkind time. The snow, the cold, the shivering freezing feeling, it would never be over, almost admitting defeat, while hanging on to that cold shoulder, of the winter jacket once thought too thick, but in the end, turned out to be the lifesaver after all. Someone said this was what we Northerners were supposed to be used to, but I pegged to differ as I could never ever in a million years of living, be the one of loving, the harshness of the white killer of spirit, someone might call a writer wonderland. But now, the shadows are slowly lifted, as the spirits are rising higher, each day, the longer the light remains, the more confident I am becoming, that this, is finally over and that life, spring, summer, has won!

Ice art painted smart

“The ice formed on the windows, creating pretty artwork for a fleeting moment“ Gun Roswell

Ice art painted smart

For a fleeting moment in time Mother Nature has been kind. Painting pictures on our walls and windows, cryptic images maybe with hidden messages. Decipher them if you can, but just as a reminder to you, don’t take too long to do so, as in a blink of an eye, they will be gone. And a missed opportunity is left for you to pine for until dawn. Or at least until the weather gods decide, they will give you a second chance, but that too, will not long last.

But, worry not, you still have one shot, to preserve the beauty fading and for the future audiences it saving. Snapping a photographic memory is the way, that this gorgeous display, will be admired for times to come and not just for some whom were lucky enough to catch this presentation firsthand and live. It might be a still life representation of the same, but hey, it’s better than nothing and that in itself is really something. And nature is never wrong about these things, even if there are plenty more to see out there in the wild and sometimes close by.
